Portrait Artist
Portraits capture not only the likeness of the subjects but also radiate their personality and spirit. With oil and canvas, Nicole Petersen captures the unique beauty of each individual for you and your loved ones to cherish. The portrait process is a creative and enjoyable experience for the subjects and family involved. The commissioner and artist work together to create a treasure that will last generations.
The following are approximate prices that reflect the pricing for a single subject with a solid or suggested background.
Additional Subjects: Each additional subject is 50% of the portrait price.
For a quote, contact the artist with the size and a general description of what you would like included in the painting.
A portrait of superior quality will fit the personality of the subject and the home it will be displayed in. This is a collaborative process between the person commissioning the portrait and the artist. Meeting the subjects and seeing the home where the work is to be displayed is the first step of this process. This is also a time to discuss the details of the painting including clothing and setting.
Once the decision has been made to commission the portrait, we will arrange a photography session that is included in the prices listed above. The painting is paid for in three installments, the first payment is completed when the subject is first photographed. The photographs serve as painting references. Often times several images are referred to throughout the process in order to create work that best represents the person and serves the painting as a whole. One photograph serves as the primary image, and the artist and commissioner decide that upon together. Any notable adjustments from the original will be also agreed upon. This dialogue post the photography session is done primarily through phone, email and photo attachments. It is possible that a second photography session may be necessary at no additional expense.
The underpainting is completed in brown and white tones before colors are added, looking similarly to a black and white photograph. At this point, we will meet again in order to view and discuss any possible adjustments. Once this stage is approved, a second payment will be made and the work will move towards completion. The nature of the color process can be time consuming so expect a longer wait between this meeting and the delivery of the portrait.
The final payment is due at time of portrait delivery. My goal is to create a work for you that is both an aesthetically beautiful addition to your home and a personal and meaningful reflection of your family.
